What is Suno Sound Effects?

Suno Sound Effects is a generation endpoint for short sounds: hits, ambiences, foley, risers, UI cues, and rhythmic loops. Unlike the export and editing operations in the Suno family, it does not need a clip_id. You start from a text prompt, pick a model version with mv, and choose whether you want a one-shot or a loop. For sounds that have to sit inside music, bpm (1 to 300) and key (any major or minor key) keep the result in time and in tune with the rest of your track. The finished task returns clips in the same shape as Suno music generation, so the clip IDs work with the export endpoints if you need a WAV or MP3 copy.

Key features of Suno Sound Effects

Five parameters do most of the work.

One-shot or loop output

type accepts one-shot (the default) or loop. One-shots suit hits, pickups, and notifications. Loops suit beds, textures, and percussion you want to repeat under a track.

Tempo and key control

Pass bpm from 1 to 300 and a key such as Am or F# to match a project. Useful for risers, stingers, and loops that have to line up with existing music.

Three v6 model versions

Set mv to chirp-hawk for the standard v6 model, chirp-hawk-wild for more experimental results, or chirp-goose for a faster, lighter v6 Mini.

Negative tags for cleaner effects

List what to avoid in negative_tags. Keeping music, vocals, or heavy reverb out of a result matters more for effects than for songs.

Inline custom model

Set mv to chirp-custom and pass a custom_model with a name and reference audio_urls to push results toward your own sound palette. The model is not saved, so resend it with each request.

Best for

Game audio

Short one-shots for hits, pickups, footsteps, and menu clicks, generated in batches from a list of prompts.

Music production loops

Percussion and texture loops locked to a BPM and key so they drop into a session without time-stretching.

Video and trailer sound design

Risers, impacts, whooshes, and room tones for edits, generated to match the tempo of the cut.

App notifications

Chimes and alerts in a chosen key so a set of UI sounds stays musically consistent.

Podcast bumpers

Short stings and transitions between segments without searching a stock library.

Use cases

Build a sound design panel inside a game editor that sends a prompt, type, and optional bpm to suno-ai/sound and drops the result into the asset browser. Add a loop generator to a music app that reads the project tempo and key and passes them through, so every loop arrives in sync. Generate a set of notification sounds for an app by looping over prompts with the same key. Once a sound is ready, pull an editable file with the Suno WAV Download API. For full songs instead of effects, use Suno music generation.

Short sound effects from a text description, not songs. Describe the sound in prompt (for example "dog barking in street"), choose one-shot or loop in type, and the task returns audio clips in the same format as Suno music generation.

Set mv to chirp-hawk (v6), chirp-hawk-wild (v6 Wild, for more experimental results), or chirp-goose (v6 Mini, faster and lighter). mv is required. Set it to chirp-custom together with a custom_model object to use your own reference audio.

Set type to loop, pass bpm (1 to 300) to match your project tempo, and add key if the sound is tonal. Keys cover all 12 major keys (C to B) and all 12 minor keys (Cm to Bm).

Yes. Put the unwanted qualities in negative_tags, for example "music, vocals, reverb". Combined with a specific prompt, this keeps results closer to a clean effect.

With mv set to chirp-custom, pass custom_model as an object with a name and an audio_urls array of reference tracks (the playground accepts 6 to 24 files). The model is not stored, so send the same payload on every request that should use that style.
