Seedance 2.5 vs 2.0: Is 2.5 Better? Price and Verdict
Verdict: Seedance 2.0 for 4-15s videos ($0.022/s on Mini) and 4K; Seedance 2.5 only for 16-30s videos or 50 references, from $0.129/s. Specs and prices.
Verdict: Seedance 2.0 is the better pick for 4–15 second videos and the only route to 4K; Seedance 2.5 is worth it only when one video must run 16–30 seconds or needs more than 15 reference assets. Seedance 2.0 Mini costs $0.0395/sec for 480p text-to-video, against $0.129/sec for Seedance 2.5. For a ten-second draft, that is $0.395 instead of $1.29. Pay for Seedance 2.5 when one video must run 16–30 seconds or the brief needs more than 15 total reference assets; use 2.0 for cheaper short drafts and 2.0 Pro for 4K output.
TL;DR: Choose Seedance 2.5 for 16–30 second output, up to 50 mixed references, or audio-only reference requests. Choose Seedance 2.0 for 4–15 seconds when price matters or the output must be 4K, which 2.0 Pro renders. At comparable 480p text-to-video settings, 2.0 Mini costs less. The live Seedance 2.5 API outputs 480p, 720p, or 1080p.
Seedance 2.5 vs 2.0 at a glance
| API difference | Seedance 2.5 | Seedance 2.0 |
|---|---|---|
| Availability | Live as bytedance/seedance-2.5 | Live as Pro, Mini, and Fast model IDs |
| Output duration | 4–30 seconds | 4–15 seconds |
| Resolution | 480p, 720p, or 1080p | Mini/Fast: 480p or 720p; Pro: 720p, 1080p, or 4K |
| Aspect ratio | Adaptive, 1:1, 3:4, 4:3, 9:16, 16:9, 21:9 | Adaptive plus the same six fixed ratios |
| Reference images | Up to 30 | Up to 9 |
| Reference videos | Up to 10, 30 seconds combined | Up to 3, 15.2 seconds combined |
| Reference audio | Up to 10, 30 seconds combined; audio-only requests supported | Up to 3, 15 seconds combined; requires an image or video reference |
| Total reference assets | Up to 50 | Up to 15 by the per-type limits |
| Reference syntax | [Image1], [Video1], [Audio1] | @Image1, @Video1, @Audio1 |
| Native audio | On by default | Available; disable with generate_audio: false |
| Lowest text-to-video price | $0.129/sec at 480p | $0.0395/sec on Mini at 480p |
The practical upgrade is duration and input capacity, not resolution. Seedance 2.5 doubles the single-task duration ceiling and accepts much larger reference sets, but the current API stops at 1080p. Seedance 2.0 Pro is still the route for 4K.
Is Seedance 2.5 better than 2.0?
Seedance 2.5 is better for a narrow set of workflows:
- A single video must run for 16–30 seconds without stitching.
- The brief needs more than nine images, three videos, or three audio files.
- An audio reference must work without an accompanying image or video.
- Reference videos or audio need up to 30 combined seconds instead of roughly 15.
Seedance 2.0 is better when:
- The final output must be 4K, on 2.0 Pro.
- The video is 15 seconds or shorter and entry price matters.
- You want separate Mini, Fast, and Pro choices for draft cost, speed, and resolution.
- An existing integration already uses
@Image1,@Video1, and@Audio1prompt references.
There is no universal winner. For a 10-second 720p social video, Seedance 2.0 Mini costs less. For a 24-second reference-heavy sequence, Seedance 2.5 avoids segment generation and stitching.
Seedance 2.5 vs 2.0 strengths showcase
We ran both models through the UnificAlly API on August 13, 2026 with the same prompt and no reference media. Settings: 4 seconds, 480p, 16:9, 24 fps, native audio enabled. At current rates the same 4-second request costs $0.516 on Seedance 2.5. Seedance 2.0 Pro no longer offers 480p; at its lowest setting, 720p, 4 seconds cost $0.516. The images below are matched frames from 2.15 seconds; the review covers visible motion only.
Motion physics and prompt adherence
| Test prompt | Seedance 2.5 output | Seedance 2.0 Pro output |
|---|---|---|
| "One continuous locked-off side view, no cuts: a clear glass marble rolls down a narrow wooden ramp, drops into a shallow ceramic bowl of water, creates one realistic splash and concentric ripples, then settles at the bottom. Soft daylight, neutral studio background, natural gravity and collision timing, physically plausible water motion, no slow motion, synchronized rolling and splash sound, no text." | ![]() | ![]() |
Seedance 2.5 gives the action a clearer ramp-to-drop-to-impact sequence and keeps the splash closer to a narrow water column with concentric ripples. Seedance 2.0 Pro completes the same sequence, but the impact stretches into a glass-like blob and the marble remains too visible above the water. Neither run clearly shows the marble settling at the bottom, so this pair does not prove full prompt adherence. It is one matched test, not a repeatability benchmark.
Seedance 2.5 vs 2.0 API pricing
These are our current per-second rates. A reference-video request has its own rate when at least one video_urls entry is present.
| Model | Option | Our rate |
|---|---|---|
| SeeDance 2.5 | 480p with reference video (output seconds) | $0.129/sec |
| 480p | $0.129/sec | |
| 720p with reference video (output seconds) | $0.28/sec | |
| 720p | $0.28/sec | |
| 1080p with reference video (output seconds) | $0.688/sec | |
| 1080p | $0.688/sec | |
| SeeDance 2.0 Mini | 480p with reference video (output seconds) | $0.022/sec |
| 480p | $0.0395/sec | |
| 720p with reference video (output seconds) | $0.0525/sec | |
| 720p | $0.0875/sec | |
| SeeDance 2.0 Fast | 480p with reference video (output seconds) | $0.0372/sec |
| 480p | $0.0582/sec | |
| 720p with reference video (output seconds) | $0.0738/sec | |
| 720p | $0.1212/sec | |
| SeeDance 2.0 Pro | 720p with reference video (output seconds) | $0.129/sec |
| 720p | $0.129/sec | |
| 1080p with reference video (output seconds) | $0.31/sec | |
| 1080p | $0.31/sec | |
| 4k with reference video (output seconds) | $0.741/sec | |
| 4k | $0.741/sec |
For a text-to-video request without reference video input:
| Example | Seedance 2.5 | Seedance 2.0 Mini | Seedance 2.0 Pro |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4 seconds at 480p | $0.516 | $0.158 | Not offered (Pro starts at 720p) |
| 10 seconds at 720p | $2.80 | $0.875 | $1.29 |
| 15 seconds at 720p | $4.20 | $1.3125 | $1.935 |
At 480p, Seedance 2.0 Mini costs less for every generated second, so the saving grows with each second of output. Seedance 2.5 earns its higher rate only when the 30-second ceiling or larger reference surface removes a separate generation and stitching step.
Seedance 2.5 costs more per second than the comparable 2.0 routes. Its value comes from the 30-second ceiling and larger reference budget, not from being the cheapest version. Check the pricing page before a large batch because rates can change.

Seedance 2.5 duration and reference limits
Seedance 2.5 accepts any whole-second duration from 4 through 30. Seedance 2.0 accepts 4 through 15. That difference matters only after the 15-second mark; below it, both can render the video in one task.
The reference change is larger. Seedance 2.5 accepts up to 30 images, 10 videos, and 10 audio files, capped at 50 total assets. Reference videos can total 30 seconds, and reference audio can total 30 seconds. Seedance 2.0 caps the corresponding arrays at 9, 3, and 3, with about 15 combined seconds for video or audio references.
Prompt syntax also changes. Seedance 2.5 uses square brackets such as [Video1]; Seedance 2.0 uses @Video1. Update stored prompt templates during migration or the reference instructions may no longer point to the intended asset.
Seedance 2.5 resolution: up to 1080p, not 4K
The live bytedance/seedance-2.5 route accepts 480p, 720p, or 1080p, and a 480p draft can be rendered natively in 1080p from the same task. It does not currently expose 4K, 10-bit color controls, or a region-editing parameter. Those pre-launch claims should not drive an API decision until they appear in the callable schema.
Seedance 2.0 Pro accepts 720p, 1080p, and 4K; Mini and Fast accept 480p and 720p. If delivery resolution is the deciding requirement, Seedance 2.0 Pro reaches higher.
How to call Seedance 2.5
The Seedance 2.5 API documentation defines the current fields. This 12-second 720p request costs $3.36 at the current non-reference rate.
curl -X POST https://api.unifically.com/v1/tasks \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $UNIFICALLY_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{
"model": "bytedance/seedance-2.5",
"input": {
"prompt": "A slow tracking shot through a rainy night market, natural crowd ambience, one continuous take",
"duration": 12,
"resolution": "720p",
"aspect_ratio": "16:9",
"generate_audio": true
}
}'
The response returns a task_id. Poll GET /v1/tasks/{task_id} until the status is completed, then read the video URL from the output.
How to call Seedance 2.0
Use Mini for the lowest text-to-video rate, Fast for a separate speed-oriented route, or Pro for 1080p and 4K. This 12-second Mini request costs $1.05 at 720p.
curl -X POST https://api.unifically.com/v1/tasks \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $UNIFICALLY_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{
"model": "bytedance/seedance-2.0-mini",
"input": {
"prompt": "A slow tracking shot through a rainy night market, natural crowd ambience, one continuous take",
"duration": 12,
"resolution": "720p",
"aspect_ratio": "16:9"
}
}'
Migrating from Seedance 2.0 to 2.5
The endpoint and async task flow stay the same, but a migration is not only a model-ID swap:
- Change the model to
bytedance/seedance-2.5. - Replace
@Image1,@Video1, and@Audio1with[Image1],[Video1], and[Audio1]in stored prompts. - Remove 4K requests; Seedance 2.5 currently goes up to 1080p.
- Keep
durationbetween 4 and 30 seconds. - For first/last-frame mode, send both frame URLs and let the aspect ratio remain adaptive.
- Recalculate cost from the selected resolution and whether
video_urlscontains a reference video.
Do not migrate a working 2.0 Pro pipeline solely because 2.5 has a higher version number. Migrate when the 30-second duration or larger reference surface removes a real workflow constraint.
